INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PSYCHOPATHOLOGY,
PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND
PSYCHOTHERAPY
ISSN: 1088-6710
The International Journal of Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology, and
Psychotherapy (IJPPP) is devoted to the reduction of human suffering by
promoting a better understanding of psychiatric disorders and by improving
the treatment of individuals who suffer from such disorders.
Published by PsyCom.Net, the IJPPP was founded with the encouragement and
support of the subscribers to PsyCom.Net's Psychopharmacology,
Psychotherapy, and Neuropsych forums. PsyCom.Net is affiliated with
InterPsych, the international on-line mental health organization founded
in 1994 by Ian Pitchford.
The IJPPP (I-J-triple-P) is an electronic journal devoted to
innovations in the understanding of psychopathology and in the
psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic techniques for
preventing, eliminating, or reducing the suffering that results
from psychopathology. A biopsychosocial model is applied to
psychopathology and its treatment. This peer-reviewed journal
will be distributed via the Internet, allowing for the rapid
dissemination of its contents.
Authors are encouraged to submit contributions that focus on original
theoretical formulations regarding psychopathology, research findings,
treatment experiences involving psychopharmacologic and/or
psychotherapeutic techniques, prevention methods, professional
education, and legal and policy concerns that affect the care of
individuals with psychiatric disorders.
While the Journal publishes review papers and full research
reports, it concentrates on the publication of case reports,
brief research reports, comments, book, video, and software
reviews, and letters to the Editor, and from time to time it will
publish special issues devoted to a single topic.
The International Journal of Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology
and Psychotherapy welcomes contributions in the following categories:
Original Contributions---Clinical or applied research, basic
science research related to clinical practice, new hypotheses regarding
psychiatric disorders.
Case Reports---Unusual clinical presentations, rarely reported
psychopathological features, newly recognized syndromes,
innovative psychopharmacologic or psychotherapeutic
interventions, unusual side effects of psychotherapeutic or
psychopharmacologic interventions.
Guest Editorials---On topics directly relevant to the subject
matter of the Journal.
Clinical Practice---Articles about practical applications of
diagnostic or therapeutic techniques.
Special Communications---Essays related to the science and art
of clinical and research practice.
Book, Video, and Software Reviews---Reviews of materials related
to psychopathology, psychopharmacology or psychotherapy, and to
psychiatry in general.
Letters to the Editor---Comments on articles published in the IJPPP
or new information on clinical topics.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
The International Journal of Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology,
and Psychotherapy's manuscript preparation guidelines follow:
Each line of the manuscript should be no longer that 75
characters. Words at the end of lines should not be hyphenated.
The submission should be single spaced. Double spacing should
only be used between paragraphs, with the first word of each
paragraph being indented by at least 5 spaces.
ORIGINALITY
All contributions are accepted for consideration on the basis
that they are original material and have not been published in
part or whole elsewhere, and have been endorsed by each author.
AUTHORSHIP
Each listed author should have contributed substantially to the
work in terms of conceptual design or analysis, writing of the
article and final approval of the article in order to take
public responsibility for the content. In the cover letter that
accompanies the submission, the first-named author must
guarantee this to be so.
LENGTH OF SUBMISSIONS
Articles and research reports should not exceed 4,000 words.
Case reports cannot exceed 1,000 words. Letters to the Editor
should not exceed 500 words. Book, video, and software reviews
should be limited to 1,000 words.
ABSTRACT
An abstract of not more than 100 words should immediately
precede the text. The abstract should include a summary of the
research, case presentation, or other content of the
contribution, and its significance.
TABLES AND GRAPHS
Tables and graphs that add to the clarity of the contribution
are encouraged. All table and graphs must be constructed out
of standard ASCII characters. The 75 character line length
should not be exceeded. Tables and graphs should be included
in the contribution at the point in the text where they
should appear in the published version of the contribution.
DOCUMENTATION
Accuracy of citation is the authors' responsibility. Work
cited should use the Harvard system of citation.
Citations: In the text, works are cited as follows: author's
last name followed by the author's initials, and following a
comma the date of publication: for example, (Jones TR, 1987);
with two authors: (Jones TR and Freeman SL, 1973); with more
than three: (Jones TR, Freeman SL, Goodhopper AQ, et al., 1985).
When a citation includes more than one work an author
published in the same year, the suffix a, b, etc. follows the
date in the text citation, for example, (Jones TR, 1987a;
Jones TR, 1978b).
If an author's name is mentioned in the text, it need not be
repeated in the citation: for example "Jones (1987b) says ..."
Reference List:
Following the text, every manuscript must include a list of
references containing only those works cited. Each entry should
follow these examples:
For a journal article:
Gunderson JG, Ronningstam E, and Bodkin A. (1990) The diagnostic
interview for narcissistic patients. Archives of General
Psychiatry. 47; 676-680.
For a book:
Kernberg O. (1985) Internal World and External Reality. New York:
Jason Aronson.
Arrange citations in alphabetical order according to the
surname of the first author.
The titles of journals should never be abbreviated.
Multiple works by the same author(s) should be listed in
chronological order of publication. Two or more works by the
same author(s) should be listed in chronological order of
publication. Two or more works by the same author(s) in the
same year are distinguished by letters after the date (Freud S,
1922a, 1922b).
STATISTICS
Authors should clearly state the statistical methods used and
considered in the design of their studies. Where relevant the
exact statistical tests must be stated.
COPYRIGHT TRANSFER
Articles are considered on the basis that the author(s)
transfer copyright to the IJPPP for all publication purposes and
for retention in an Internet-based retrieval system.
DISCLOSURE OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Sources of support for the research or article must be
acknowledged in the paper, together with the disclosure at the
time of submission of any financial involvement that might
appear to be a conflict of interest.
PATIENT ANONYMITY AND CONSENT
Since on-line journals are largely available for public access
ethical and legal considerations mandate that patients'
anonymity be preserved. Exact ages, occupations and geographic
locations should be changed. Research papers must indicate
that informed consent was obtained from all participants in a
study.
ADVERTISING
In order to prevent conscious or unconscious bias from affecting
the editorial process, the Journal will not accept advertising
from pharmaceutical manufacturers.
POLICY ON REPRODUCTION
As an objective of the IJPPP is to promote the wide dissemination
of information, permission is hereby granted to reproduce any of
the contents of the IJPPP for use in courses of instruction, as long
as the source and PsyCom.Net's copyright are indicated in any
such reproductions.
Written application must be made to the Editor for permission
to reproduce any of the contents of the IJPPP for use in other than
courses of instruction--e.g., inclusion in books of readings.
In such instances, the applicant must notify the Editor in writing
of the intended use of each reproduction.
Normally, the IJPPP will not assess a charge for the waiver
of copyright.
